The People´s Deputies, leading experts in public health, representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers, relevant public and scientific institutions, national and international public associations attended the event.
The participants of the discussion dwelled upon the issues concerning rendering of professional medical aid and medical-social support to the Ukrainian adolescents.
It was stated that the rate of children´s disability had increased: 199,6 per 10 thousand children in 2008 (2007 - 196,4; 2006 - 191,0, 2005 - 177,6).
The participants of the discussion stated that resource provision of adolescents´ service failed to meet the present-day demands. Thus, in comparison with 1991, the number of ambulatory- outpatients' establishments with the room for adolescents has considerably decreased.
The Committee members believe that medical assistance of adolescents should aim at provision of their physiological development, settlement of medical-social issues, especially related to the high-risk behaviour, prevention of chronic diseases.
The experts deem necessary to extend the network of centers of medical aid for adolescents and youth, and establish cooperation between the centers of social services for the family, youth and children and educational establishments in order to secure further development of youth-friendly medical and social services.
The participants of the round table discussion came to the conclusion that reorganization of medical assistance rendered to the adolescents required further enhancement and coordination with the final document of the Special Session of the United National General Assembly "A World Fit for Children" (May 2002).
The participants of the round table discussion passed a resolution, in which the Cabinet of Ministers is recommended to draft the motions concerning enhancement of effective legislation on public health of adolescents till the end of the current year.
